A Messenger Named Toto
As I was busy rushing through my “vital” list of chores, caught up in the mental haste of it all – a messenger named Toto slowed me down.
Coming across a wise little tortoise on your daily tasks can do wonders for being reminded to put on the brakes.
Tortoises are purposeful little fellas. They’re methodical and considered. They go about their business with clear and determined intention – and yet they are never in a rush.
See me – I’m a hare. Well at least my brain is. I’m forever spinning philosophical plates, my hands (and head) full of benevolent notions on how to change the world for the better – then hurrying about doing my upmost to materialise that.
Action, action, action.
However well-intentioned this endeavour may be, it’s missing the point entirely.
For where am I trying to get to?
Am I not already everything?
Little Toto, unbeknown to him (or perhaps not), delivered in his own untroubled and carefree way, a profound and poignant message.
Slow the fuck down.
Of course – it is wonderful that we’ve all turned up at this time, to do our part to support this confronting transition in ours and our Earth’s journey. But we have to be careful to not get too caught up in the urgency.
To realise, a lot of the time, we are already doing our bit simply by anchoring love, compassion and kindness into our reality.
We don’t need fireworks. Or a big show. We just need to turn up and plod along with love in our hearts and a smile on our face.
To breathe, to ground – to trust.
Slow n steady wins the race.
The Sunday Sermon
In this week's Sunday Sermon, Danny reflects on an unexpected meeting with a messenger on a mountain road - how that chance encounter sparked a moment of reflection on why so many of us are rushing through life, and what we might be missing when we forget to just stop, breathe, and trust the process.
